Rattan
I is planning to order some soon. If you want to go in with me and save on shipping, let me know. I'm planning to order from Frank's again, so you can hit up his website for pricing.

Re: Rattan
what would your recommendations be for rattan diameters/lengths for a basic set of weapons (long sword, short sword, staff and spear)?

Re: Rattan
Weapons typically have these approximate dimensions:
short sword 3' X 1" long sword 4' X 1" staff/spear 6' X 1.25"
What would probably be best is if people posted here what weapons they want to make, and I can figure the math out so people have to spend the least amount possible.
I need:
1 staff 2 spear 1 short sword 1 long sword

Re: Rattan
2 staff 2 spear 2 short sword 2 long sword
is what I was looking at between mere and I, depending on how much that amount of rattan would run.

Re: Rattan
Ok, so it looks like I'm back in business for rattan. As it turns out, I have apparently never ordered from Frank's supply, but order from Ice Falcon Armory instead. Not sure why I had it stuck in my head that I ordered from Frank's.
The last time I ordered (in 2006), skin on rattan (which is all he sold) was $15 for a 9ft stave. Using that price and estimating shipping at about 1/3 of the total purchase price, our estimated totals are the following:
Gary & Meredeth = $120
Eric = $80
Kenny = $60
The guy charges me actual shipping cost, so we won't know the exact price until after the rattan has shipped.
Let me know ASAP if you can swing it or not.

Re: Rattan

Re: Rattan
Skip all that business and just invest in QUALITY gauntlets. You'll be able to use them for weapons fighting, and for hand to hand.

Re: Rattan
I copied the brass knuckles posts to a new thread, appropriately named "Brass Knuckles." Please continue the conversation there if you so desire.
The rattan order is due to ship tomorrow. I'll have the final cost numbers then. I have no idea if it will make it here in time for the new recruit day. If not, I'll bring it to the mid January training day.

Re: Rattan
The rattan finally shipped, and the shipping cost was waaay less than I anticipated. Here's everyone's costs:
Gary $96 Laygeaux $64 kenny $48 me $64
I'm planning to bring the rattan out to the January training, if I get it in time, and definitely out to the February tournament/noob training. Since I personally fronted the money for the order, I will not be releasing rattan until it's payed for, so be sure to bring money.
