OK, so Jeff Basham e-mailed me JUST this morning, about his jousting training. I
called Eric about schedules earlier.

The fencing school isn't available until 3 p.m. on Saturdays. So as my previous
group e-mail suggested, I think it'd be fun to expose both our groups to a rare
opportunity to observe and participate a bit in jousting training. EVERYONE is
welcome.

I'm good with either a 5 p.m. tournament with finals after dinner (eat
light..!), or a Sunday morning tournament.

I have enough couches and beds for 5-7 people. If someone is clean and cute
(preferably female, but not necessary), I have a queen bed to myself. And I
have floor space out the yin yang. Enough for 6-10 more people easily if they
bring sleeping bags and pillows. The house has 2 bathrooms available to us, so
8-10 would be easy, 10-15 would have to be... carefully managed (i.e. draconian
bathroom scheduling).

Plus we might expect 1-3 other spots to stash guests with the rest of my guys.

In other words, you only need to get a hotel room if you really want the
privacy.

We should be able to provide 2 people for tournament management.

And I expect about 6-9 people to participate. I don't mind doing a pool
structure, aimed at maximizing cross-club fencing. It's OK if you guys stack the
deck with all your guys -- I don't mind. Then we'll do quarter or semi finals
with the top 8 or 4 point scores.

Tourney rules:

3 minutes
clean hit = 1 point
nachschlag = no point
double hit = foul, 5 fouls and both fencers lose the round

This e-mail and the previous one are all just my proposals. Your ideas are all
very welcome, please! I'm super excited!

Hi, all.

Just heard from Jean Henri and Eric Wiggins in New Orleans, and they're set to
visit us on Jan 14 weekend. Who's ready for some inter-club rivalry?

We'll be doing it as a combination of training and an informal tournament.

The tentative schedule is:

SDA NOLA and Ordo Procinctus are sending around 15 guys our way, Friday night Jan
13. Half of them will crash with me (I can accommodate 5-7 on couches / beds,
and have plenty of floor space), and if anyone else is willing to offer couch /
floor / bed space, that'd be awesome. Please let us know!

Saturday, Jeff Basham is hosting the tournament jousting training out his way,
starting around 10 a.m. or noon. We are invited to come watch, hold lances, etc.
I propose we hang out until about 2 or 3 p.m. at least.

The fencing school becomes available after 3 p.m., so we can start at 3 or 4. We
can go until 8 or 10, with a break for dinner.

Sunday training is on as usual, starting at 10, and we can go until the
foreigners decide they've had enough of us and pull up stakes to head home.



I suggest we do the tournament after an hour of warm-up, around 5 p.m. on Sat.
Or Sunday morning around 11 or noon. Please reply and tell me what times
absolutely DON'T work for you.


We'll need some folks to help judge / track the tournament, as well as people to
compete, kick ass, and take names.

This is going to be a blast AND a good way to get some face time with new
fencers, leading into the Texas Assault on Feb 18 and Fechtschule America on
March 16-18!

Hey everyone,

FYI - because of schedules and travel most of the jousters will not arrive until about lunch time on Saturday, thus it will be about 1pm before we start doing our thing. We will be practicing skill at arms (quitain, rings, spear throwing, tent pegging, and sword cutting). After that we will have a small club melee tourney and towards the end some actual jousting.

Steve Hemphil (the person who produces the Lysts on the Lake) will be there and is a fine jouster. Also, David Wise who was the winner of last years Club Melee Tournament at the Lysts, will be there as well. They will be the ones giving pointers on technique an stuff. I'm expecting up to 7 - 12 riders/horses to show up. Texas is fast becoming the hot spot for jousting in the USA.

This will be a very informal practice from green (inexperienced) horses and riders to seasoned veterans.

Hope y'all can come visit, sorry if the schedule may not work out for it though.
