Dixie Krieg 2011: October 8-9, Tallahassee, FL
Looks like the Meyer Frei Fechter Guild has pegged down Oct 8-9 for Dixie Krieg this year. Right now, I don't have details other than the date and location. This will be a smaller regional event, as opposed to the international Houston event I went to in March. This event will be a great chance to get some quality training, meet some cool people, and spar and compete with new opponents. I'll post details about the event and accommodations as they become available.

Well, if we have this much of an attendance, I'll have to really go.
Heck, I've bought tickets for the last 2 times and never showed up.

Schedule of events for Dixie Krieg 2011. Looks like the tourney will be Belgian Rules. We're going to have to change our training strategy... http://freifechter.com/events/

Just googled belgian rules. Much more limiting. This looks like an early precursor to modern sport fencing, leaving out a lot of combat oriented techniques. Possibly creating a very sport specific skill set. If I'm reading right, no forearm cuts, no take downs, no gastreson kicks. I hope that doesn't become the norm in this evolving awesome community of combat fencers. It could just be the specific stuff I ran into on the web though. I don't really know anything about it.

I didn't realize the tournament was going to be Belgian rules. It kinda sucks =\
You're right, the Belgian rules are very "sportified" and limiting. That kind of tournament isn't the norm, as far as I know. The Meyer Freifechter guys are very hardcore Meyer practitioners, and the Belgian rule set is a lot like the rule set Meyer taught under, so I think they're gravitating to it for that reason.
It'll still be good experience. The rule set forces you to use good sword technique. I just hope they aren't doing the whole black clothes with chalked blades bit.

If I remember correctly, you mentioned that last time there was plenty of opportunity for sparring with others. I'm quite sure there will be others that would fight with a more aggressive ruleset.
Also, I think that Belgian rules is for that special fight with that person. It sounds like under his guild, that guy has to challenge a certain amount of people and win 50% of his fights. So maybe there will be other separate sparring and not just sparring against that one guy.
As we have done in the past, we will fight as realistic and safe as possible. Why practice krumptgau, if you can't attack the forearms? That is plain silly!
I may likely not participate in a fight, if the rules are too pansy. The clinics will be very good, though.
Every Ordo guy should be working and training hard for these upcoming events. Time to step-up and represent our club!
