sparring armour for nylon swords
For those that plan to cross-train with the new nylon swords for HEMA events, you realize that you need a 3-weapon fencing mask to participate. The fencing mask allows you great visibility and breathability, plus it is very easy on the nylon swords. (The swords don't get nicked up like they do on our helmets.)
The HEMA guys do not use visible steel armour like we do. They either use padded gambesons (and get nice bruises), or hidden armour. This hidden armour can either be BMX/motorcycle armor or hidden plates beneath the gambeson.
I was thinking of getting some mesh-based motorcycle armour to use for protection. It could be thrown on as-is (no shirt) during the hot summer months during training, worn with a shirt beneath for normal weather, or quite possible covered up with a tunic or gambeson for HEMA events.
Are other people looking at getting something like this? Does anyone wanna look at them too and possible get the same gear? Or does anyone care.
Prices on EBay range from $10-$100 on motorcycle armor. You sometimes get what you pay for. Even $100 is not bad, considering it is for full torso, shoulders, and complete arm protection.
Any interest here?

Re: sparring armour for nylon swords
I think I'm going to stick with a gambeson. I really don't mind bruises all that much, and regardless, I think I can make something that has pockets to slide ABS plates into. Plus I just prefer the look of a gambeson. I got struck most in the upper left arm and my ribs on the left side, two places that would be really easy to stick plates on. But that's just me

I just use a mask, harden gloves, forearm, and elbow pads. Again I do get a lot of bruises, but the heal and make good stories at work and get taken care of at home.

Well then, if I use minimal padding or plates, I should be OK.
I'm not into getting bruises anymore. At least not if I can help it.
