I've decided not to pad my new armor with the trademark gray foam, so I've begun to make an arming doublet.
I started off with a doublet pattern from McCall's (#4695) and have cut out 4 layers of 1/8 inch cotton batting (I'm using WalMart's MainStays brand but there's also "Warm and White" and "Warm and Natural" brand as well) for all of the pieces for the torso of the doublet.
When I get the cash, I'm going to buy the fabric for the coat, but until then I guess I'll just cut batting for the arms :(
Hopefully this project will turn out to be a lightweight and more breathable alternative to the gray foam. And I just might end up with less rivet bruises... :-/
