I picked up some fabric the other day. I wanna try my hand at making an arming jacket. The goal will be to make a jacket that can be used for pointing 14th cen. armour to. (legs, arms, & spaulders) The material is 55% linen and 45% cotton, so it should breath well. I'm currently working on the pattern, which is loosely based on my current jacket. The plan is to slap together a first-draft jacket using 'test fabric' (based on the patterns), then go back and modify the patterns and/or 'test fabric' as required. Once the first-draft jacket is acceptable (or at least all mistakes figured out), then the good fabric will be used. The jacket will be for Page Kristyn, not for me. I am not making this so much FOR her, as rather this is an excercise (for me) to see if I can make an arming jacket from scratch. Sir Eric has made an excellent arming jacket, and I hope I can at least come close to his work. |

Let me know if you want a pattern. The one I used worked with very little alteration. |

It actually would be handy, especially for the sleeves. I've already got the body area patterned and hopefully fairly correct. Hey, how's the storage building coming along? |

I will be keeping an eye on this project. A good under layer is something I am missing. |

I'll try to remember to bring the patterns to the next tourney if I can scrounge them all up. Meanwhile, I'll send you the electronic version. The shed looks like a really nice floor at present. Hoping to get some walls up this weekend. |

Since I'm not too far along on my current pattern, I may ditch it, and go with yours. I think I have enough test fabric to fool around with. |

The liner pieces have been cutout and all but one piece is hand-sewn in place. Nearly ready for a test-fitting. |

If it's not too much trouble, post a few pics of the process. |

I'll take pics tonight, and hopefully post them. It was real easy and all done by hand. No machine needed. It would be really quick with a sewing machine, of course, but I want to see what I can pull off without one. It would also be much easier if the subject was available for periodic test-fittings. The liner will be test-fitted today, and if that is good, then the rest can be done without worry. |
