Post New bascinet
I decided to bite the bullet and get a period helmet for my 14th cen. kit.

Image

This is the start of it. When completed it will have 2 interchangeable visors (shovel face and pig-face), and a rivetted aventail.

Only sabatons to complete the outfit... :geek:

yep. same here Squire Chris.

I just received an underwear set + linen chauses from Historic enterprises. The whole shabang cost $100 bucks or so, but it's worth it. This REALLY looks period. At least alot more than my brown cotton pants and black button up shirt. The chausses will also be alot cooler to fight in during the hot months. Linen breaths and wicks better than cotton, so overall the comfort level will be better.

The helm will be sweet. It should be very strong and be able to be used for steel combat. (eye slots only vunerable area) In fact, the helm should eb strong enough to be used for jounsting with the proper visor. (I won't be doing that though.) I am considering sometimes to not use a visor and to slip a great helm over the bascinet when fighting. 8-) (yes you have a cool helmet, but I have 2 cool helmets at once!)

I just need to make some sabatons, and I'll have a pretty fair 14th cen. rig.

Here is the visor so far. I have requested to have that chin-beard thing to get shortened by 1/2. (Looks interesting, but may get in the way)

I may get it in a month or so.

The second visor is looking really good! As you can see, I should be well protected, when we start using steel blades (or aluminum).

The visors are interchangeable, so I can use the shovel-face for typical Ordo stuff, and the pig-face for steel. For light, blossfechten, I can remove the visor and just use the bascinet.

The liner and rivetted aventail is still to come!

Helmet set came in this weekend! WooHoo!
Very rugged and heavy duty. I need to add an additional chin strap, but that's it.

It has one chin strap that prevents the helmet from lifting off your head (which is pretty much not needed, cuz you gotta squeeze it on or off, but once on it is very comfy.) It needs a strap to prevent the helmet from moving backward in the event of a hard blow to the face. The helmet moves only slightly backward, which is fine with the pig-face visor, but the shovel face visor could be a busted nose in the wing if it's not addressed.

I should be able to add this strap and have it ready to try out for the next tourney. 8-)

I'm excited to see this helm first hand. Hold it and touch and such.
